What Makes a Quality Site?

• Well written original content.
• Good layout and design.
• Good use of graphics, flash and images while providing "alt" tags for each. Use of "Browser Safe" colours.
• Inviting and creative enough to keep the user interested and wanting to read other pages at your site.
• Use "Keyword phrases" an appropriate number of times.
• Meta Tag description words.
• Consistent easy to understand navigation at the top and bottom of each page. Also, identify each page so that the user always knows where they are.
• Branding - use consistent layout colours throughout your site.
• Use of external CSS Cascading Style Sheets.
• Provide contact information of your physical address, phone number and email contact.
• Provide an "About" page to explain who you are and what you do.
• Keep line lengths from a minimum of 8 words to a maximum of 12 words.
• The use of consistent font sizes no smaller then 9px and no larger the 16px for headings.
• The background colour or image should not make the text difficult to read.
• If you site is large provide a site map.
• Link colours are coordinated with layout colours and must be underlined.
• Pages should download quickly.
• The home page should fit within an 800 x 600 pixel space or at least not be wider then 800 px. It's acceptable to pan down just not sideways. This will annoy your users.
• Don't use all capitals or all bold or underline unless it is a link.
• Make sure the HTML and CSS pages are validated and tested on several different browsers.
